Fulton County Inmate Escapes Custody By Jumping In River; Caught Short Time Later

Fulton, Ky.—A Fulton County inmate who escaped custody, scaled over the floodwall and into the river was apprehended a short time later Thursday afternoon.
Robert Lee Addair, age 43, was in custody at the Fulton County Courthouse and at 12:36 p.m., escaped from the courthouse, fled on foot down to the floodwall, scaled the wall and jumped into the river.
 
 
According to a press release from the Fulton County Detention Center, the initial responders were able to maintain a visual of Addair while he was in the water. A call for assistance from the river was made.
 
Addair was apprehended by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife by boat and was taken back into custody at 1:03 p.m. hours. Addair was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for treatment of possible exposure to the elements. Addair will be charged with escape upon his return to the jail.
Jail officials said they will be conducting a thorough review of the case to determine the facts of what exactly happened in this incident. Officials praised the quick response and aid in the apprehension of Addair by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, City of Hickman Public Works, Hickman Police Department and the Fulton County Rescue Squad.
Robert Addair is in custody on a host of charges ranging from burglary to theft to fleeing police. He is also wanted for charges in Florida for robbery.
