Paris, Tenn.—U.S. Congressman David Kustoff toured the local Jackson State Community College branch and the Eurotranciatura USA manufacturing company during a quick stop in Paris this morning, getting a quick look at the successes at both spots.
The Jackson State Community College classrooms are located at the Central Services building and Patrick Davis, Dean of Academic Support, said Jackson State is now full-time there, with 61 enrolled and 16 classes ongoing. Classes just began locally last semester, with only a limited number of classes.
Davis noted that at least 16 of those enrolled are in dual enrollment classes from Henry County High School.
Kustoff was greeted at the Jackson State classrooms by Paris Mayor Carlton Gerrell, Davis, Jackson State Vice President Dr. Larry Bailey, Henry County Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Norton; Paris Special Schools District Superintendent Dr. Norma Gerrell and BPU General Manager Terry Wimberley.
Dr. Bailey told Kustoff, “It’s an honor for us to be in Henry County and it’s a really good thing for the citizens of Henry County. If it’s not for the vision of the two mayors and the working relationship with the city council and county commission, it may not have happened.”
He said Jackson State, Paris and Henry County “have really pulled together a great partnership and it’s really opened doors for us. We see nothing but good growth here.”
Dr. Bailey said the goal of Jackson State is to open its own campus in Henry County within five years.
Kustoff and his staff then accompanied Gerrell to Eurotranciatura USA, which is located in the former Tecumseh Building on Hwy. 54.
