By Shannon McFarlin News Director

Cottage Grove, Tenn.–A combine parked in a field was destroyed by fire Thursday night and firefighters still don’t know to whom it belongs.

The Cottage Grove Volunteer Fire Department was paged out at 11:25 p.m. to 8330 Hwy. 140N and found a combine in a field totally engulfed in flames and the fire was spreading in the field.

Fire Chief John Weiher said the neighbors across the road called 911.

Weiher said the combine had been parked for the night and the cause of the fire isn’t yet known. The combine was parked about a quarter-mile off the roadway in the field, he said.

10 Firefighters battled the fire and were on the scene until 1:30 a.m.

Weiher said no structures were nearby.
